Zakat is not optional charity.
It is an obligation ordained by Allah upon every Muslim who possesses wealth beyond their essential needs.
As the third pillar of Islam, Zakat is a system of justice and mercy — designed to purify wealth, protect dignity, and ensure that no member of the Ummah is abandoned in hardship. It is a right owed to the poor, not a favor granted by the wealthy.
Zakat becomes due once a Muslim’s qualifying wealth reaches the nisab and has been held for one lunar year. When this condition is met, fulfilling Zakat is an act of obedience and trust in Allah’s command.
Allah says in the Qur’an that Zakat is to be given only to specific categories of people, ensuring that it reaches those who are truly entitled to it. For this reason, Zakat must be handled with care, precision, and accountability.
At UMMA, Zakat is treated as an amanah.
It is collected, protected, and distributed in strict accordance with Islamic principles — separately from other donations, transparently tracked, and delivered with dignity to eligible recipients.
Our role is not simply to distribute funds, but to ensure that your Zakat fulfills its purpose exactly as Allah intended.
Zakat is worship. We ensure it is fulfilled with trust and integrity.
